Grazia magazine goes 3D with Augmented Reality
Grazia introduce a 3D Augmented Reality issue of the magazine this week.
Hailed as the ‘Walk-in, Talking’ issue, the front cover features an augmented reality code that brings cover star Florence Welch from music group Florence and the Machine to life on the screen of a webcam enabled mobile phone or computer webcam.
Further codes are printed throughout the magazine enabling readers to take 360 degree views in its fashion pages.

Johnston Press’s advertising downturn eases
Johnston Press, the owner of Scotsman and Yorkshire Post, reported a downturn in ad revenues of 7.3% for the first nine weeks of 2010, up from 26.5% decline for the same period the previous year. Johnston reported a loss of £114 million for 2009, up from £430 million in 2008.

Unilever to publish Dove promotional magazine
Unilever are to team with Tesco, launching a 17pp flip-cover magazine in Tesco’s customer publication ‘Tesco Magazine’. The ‘Man Alive’ magazine is a promotion for Unilever’s Dove Men and Care range in the March/April issue. ‘Tesco Magazine’ has a total readership of 6.5 million.

Archant operating profit down by 32%
The publisher of the Eastern Daily Press and regional magazines, including Shropshire Life and Angel said in a preliminary statement to shareholders that operating profit fell to £15.1m last year while turnover fell 19% to £142m. There was no indication of pre-tax figures.

St.Ives may need to close more print sites
The printing group, said it may need to close more printing facilities if tough trading conditions don’t improve this year.
St.Ives last year closed a number of sites including their web offset site in Andover and two direct mail and commercial printing facilities in Crayford and Romford. St.Ives recently reported the loss of the IPC Media magazine printing contract.

Environment Agency to publish regional fishing magazines
The Environment Agency will print and mail eight regional guides targeted at the 750,000 rod licence holders in England and Wales. The publications will be customer published by London based agency – Think Publishing.

London Weekly will roll out on Feb 5th
Global Publishing Group have confirmed the new freesheet is on track to launch on Feb 5th.
It was reported on November 30th that a group of private investors were intending to publish a competitor to the London Evening Standard, to be distributed free of charge on Fridays and Saturdays to commuters and travellers to London and with a print run of 250,000.

National Trust magazine circulation leaps by 250,000 during recession
Circulation for the National Trust magazine increased by 250,000 subscribers during the last two years, increasing total circulation to 3,760,000. The magazine is to have a total redesign in time for the Spring 2010 issue.

British Airways to launch luxury holidays magazine
BA is to publish a new magazine targeted at the premier holiday market.
The publication will be published on a quarterly basis and produced by Cedar Communications. Titled ‘The Collection’ it will have a initial print run of 60,000 and be mailed to BA’s Executive Club Members.
